I recently (sort of) received a GHD Platinum Styler. As a girl with thick, curly, long hair I wear out flat irons at least once a year. It takes a lot to tame this mane. I wanted to wait about three weeks before writing a review, I like to thoroughly use a beauty product before recommending it to y’all. Overall it’s a great styler. If you have thin hair, this is the styler for you. With the design of the this flat iron, it won’t over heat your hair and you can easily style it.
After three weeks of using the GHD Platinum styler, here are my thoughts:
It has been a crazy busy couple of a weeks of traveling y’all! This past weekend I was in NYC for a few days for Fashion Week. NYC is one of my favorite cities for a lot of reasons: the energy, the ease of getting around, all the sights and all of the food (okay, maybe not the dollar pizza slices – those are not great!). I’ve written about how to experience the best of NYC in one day (here), but for first time visitors there’s a lot more than knowing the sights to see and places to eat in order to have a great time!
This past weekend, I revisited some of my favorite spots, experienced NYFW, and did a LOT of shopping. Can I just say how fantastic Banana Republic’s show was? Oh my goodness. Their pieces are on point! One thing I’m really glad to see is that the off-the-shoulder trend is here to stay. I’m always a bit nervous to try new trends until I know it’s not just a one season thing. Off-the-shoulder sweaters are going to be so hot this fall, y’all!
While I was walking around and thinking about post ideas, I thought about sharing a few things I’ve learned about exploring NYC. If you’re a first time visitor this NYC guide is for you! You probably know all about the major tourist attractions so I’ll skip those!
Here are a few things I’ve learned from living in the area and multiple visits:
Transportation: Getting from the airport into Manhattan can be tricky, but once you’re at your hotel it’s much easier to get around! The Subway is your best bet (cab/uber generally only saves a minute or two) and Google Maps is your new best friend.
Depending on which airport you’re coming in from the easiest way to get to your destination is going to vary. If you fly into Newark it’s super easy. Hop on the NJ transit train to Penn Station and take a cab to your hotel (if you’re staying further than a few blocks from Midtown, take the subway. From Penn Station the A/C/E, 1/2/3, and N/Q/R lines are super easy to get on). If you fly into LGA, it’s a little more difficult. Depending on the time of day, I would go ahead and pay the $40-$50 cab fare to get into Manhattan. Your other options are: take the Q70 bus to Jackson Heights or Woodside and transfer to whichever subway line you need or take a cab/uber to the subway (this is what I usually do!). If you fly into JFK, there’s a train that will take you to different stops and it is much easier than the bus at LGA!
Once you’re ready to explore, if you haven’t already, get a Metrocard. If you’re staying 3 days or more, buy the unlimited pass for a week. It’s $30 but you’ll use it enough to make it worth it. Google Maps has saved me more times than I can count. Simply plug in your destination and tap on the train icon. It will tell you which line to take and the map will show you where your destination is in relation to where you are (so you’ll know whether you need a downtown or uptown bound train).
Navigation: While using the grid layout of NYC is a pretty good way to get around (The larger the street number, the further north you are and avenue blocks are numbered from east to west) but, Google Maps, Google Maps, Google Maps is the BEST way to navigate. Especially if you’re further downtown (Wall St, Greenwich Village, WTC area) where the streets aren’t numbered.
Cabs: I rarely, rarely use cabs/uber to get around. In the outer-boroughs, yes. Or if my feet hurt and the subway line I need requires too much walking, I’ll take one to the subway line I need.
Shoes: WEAR COMFY ONES. If you want to look cute for pictures (I do this!) carry your heels in your bag to slip on for pics or for dinner, etc. On average when I’m exploring NYC I walk about 8 miles. I’ve never walked fewer than 5 miles and once I walked 13 miles (definitely earned a milkshake from Black Tap that day!).
Restrooms: This is another tip you probably won’t find in most guide books or travel sites. Public restrooms are few and far between (and not the cleanest!). Most coffee shops and Starbucks have restrooms for customers and all you need to do is buy a water/coffee/cookie/etc.
Times Square: Walk through, take pictures, do some shopping (the Ann Taylor Loft store here is fantastic!), people watch, etc but avoid eating here. There are so many cute little restaurants in NYC and fabulous pizza places, none of which are in Times Square. It’s entirely chain restaurants and long waits. Speaking of food:
Food: My absolute favorite part of the city. I could write an entire book dedicated to my favorite places. I’ll narrow it down to the must-eats. Pizza. Anything from Dominique Ansel’s bakery. Bagels. Brunch anywhere. Burgers (Shake Shack is overrated, try Ainsworth in Midtown or Hoboken instead). Katz Delicatessen (The place from When Harry Met Sally). For a more comprehensive list of some of the best food, this article is fantastic (although I disagree about Tacos and BBQ – I’m from Texas, we do BBQ and Tacos way better). For cheap NYC eats this list is phenomenal!
Pizza: Juliana’s is hand’s down my favorite. It’s located in DUMBO just off of the Brooklyn Bridge (walk it, don’t take the subway in). In Manhattan, I like Rubirosa (NoLita), Lombardi’s (NoLita, oldest pizzeria in NYC) and John’s (West Village).
Brunch: Jack’s Wife Frieda, Clinton Street Baking Co, Agave (awesome bottomless drinks deal!), Santina, and Sarabeth’s. There’s other great brunch places too but these are my faves!
Lastly, rooftops. You can’t leave NYC without visiting at least one. There’s a ton of great ones, but I think The Monarch is perfect for a first NYC visitor! The view is incredible and right under the Empire State Building.

I love trying new stuff, something about the new-ness of it is so exciting to me. When I got the opportunity to try out some new makeup c/o Giorgio Armani I was psyched! I hadn’t gotten a chance to try liquid eyeshadows yet. Let me tell you, this is going to be the new hottest trend makeup wise!
I love how blend-able these shades are. You do absolutely need to blend right away. I found that using my finger to blend actually works best, which is great! I love low maintenance makeup, the kind of makeup that you don’t have to buy a bunch of fancy tools and brushes to use. The shimmery one is PERFECT as a highlighter for your brow bone, the inner corners of your eye and even over a matte shade to add some dimension.
The mascara is honestly a little pricey, but I do prefer it over the ones I normally use. I think mascara is more of a personal preference and what works best for you. I have really short lashes so mascara is tricky for me (I’m on a mission to find something to fix this!). I found this mascara to be a whole lot less clumpy than the cult favorite, Better Than Sex.

I’m not giving up my love of cult favorite eye shadow pallets any time soon, but these tints are staying on rotation. Especially the shimmer one (Gold Ashes). Once it runs out, I’ll likely purchase another. It is so versatile, a major requirement for any new makeup I add to my collection! Especially if you’re on a budget, it’s the best way to go.
Yes, I have been waiting until Wednesday to post this – I really like cheesy alliterations. I posted here about getting back into fitness and having a routine that works for you and getting excited about it! Well today, I’m sharing some of my favorite workout gear.
Runners this post is especially for you! I’ve run several half marathons and 2 marathons, and over the years I’ve tried SO. MANY. products. Non-runners, a lot of these things will work for you as well!
These are my must haves, and you can shop them at the links in the caption!
The foam roller is essential for those post workout sore muscles. You can stretch and take all the Advil in the world but this little thing actually works out the soreness. Even after my longest runs, I was walking around with ease the next day after using this! It’s not just for running workouts. We all know that post-leg day feeling where you don’t even want to move again, this has gotten me through many of those!
Good shoes are so so so important for a good workout, especially if you’re a runner! These provide a bit of stability for us flat-footed girls without feeling too clunky like a normal stability shoe. I’m a huge fan of Saucony’s, it’s all I wear for running or at the gym, or any other workout.
For stashing gear I love this belt and the North Face bra. For running I, sometimes, use both. This belt is perfect for carrying a phone, keys, gels, chapstick, etc. If you’re uncomfortable with stashing your phone in the bra or the bra just doesn’t work for you, get. this. belt! Armbands are clunky, collect sweat and are impossible to deal with on arm day.
Most gyms don’t offer towels anymore (boo!) so I started having to bring own. I use to just bring a dish towel, yes I brought a dish towel, with me. After a few months of carting around a cupcake printed towel, I found these microfiber towels. These are amazing. You wet them, wring them out and they stay cool while being dry to the touch. I have no idea how they do this but I love it. Especially great for hot yoga classes!
If you’re like me and you like to get in your workout after work, these wipes are necessary for your gym bag. I usually end up wiping about half my face off and onto my towel, inevitably ruining the towel.

I’m a typical millennial when it comes to social media. Prior to mid-June, you could find me checking Facebook at least once an hour. At stop lights, in between work calls, at lunch (at least twice), walking to my car in the parking lot, first thing when I got home, and while falling asleep I would be scrolling and scrolling through my feed.
I’m mostly an observer on Facebook. Scrolling through everyone else’s lives, political statuses, highlight reel pictures (y’know the ones: engagements, weddings, honeymoons, vacays, etc). The most active I (typically) get on Facebook is subscribing to events and the occasional like or comment on a post. But I was ALWAYS scrolling through.
People share everything on Facebook, and it’s hard impossible not to compare yourself to these highlight reels. One day, I deactivated my profile and haven’t looked back! I’ve been offline for 2 months (and counting!) and here’s what I’ve learned:
I am a HUGE bargain shopper, but that doesn’t mean I only shop at Forever 21 and thrift stores (I wish I had the patience/attention span for thrifting!). Most of the items that I purchase are designer brands (Lilly, Kate Spade, Jack Rogers and even Jimmy Choo), but I almost never pay retail price!

Post grad fitness is hard. Like real. real. real. hard y’all! I definitely wouldn’t have associated college with the healthiest time of my life if you had asked me even during college. Between walking a few miles everyday to class, not having enough money to eat Chipotle everyday and the incredibly large, free gym 5 minutes from my apartment it was almost EASY to be healthy.
Lately I’ve been doing my worst at being healthy. I am definitely starting to feel it. I used to workout several times a week, training for a marathon and keeping my fitness up in the off season (AKA when it’s 110 outside here in Texas).
Of course every fitness plan needs cute new gear (totally necessary), here are some of my favorites and how I’m getting back to my fitness routine!
So anyone that knows me knows, that I have one true love: Tex Mex. To save money, I’ve been eating in a LOT lately. Prior to the move I had been eating out every day for lunch and I just simply did not cook.
